This week’s species spotlight is on one of my favorite annuals- Gazania! This brilliant and beautiful member of the Asteraceae family is native to South Africa and, like me, loves hot, sunny days! They are super low maintenance (no deadheading required!), can tolerate poor soil and continue to perform in drought conditions (for those of you who forget to water every once in a while.. you know who you are 😉). The flowers do take a rest at night by closing up, but never fear, they will open again with the first sign of sunshine! Bonus!- These beauties bloom from late spring all the way through fall, adding magnificent fall color to your landscape!
